Entrepreneur. Executive. Investor.
Cook. Traveler. Dad.
I love technology. I've had a varied career path that has included being a soldier, a financial analyst, a lawyer, and a startup founder. The thread connecting these experiences has been my interest in how technology makes people more effective. Professionals who value competence and expertise report higher happiness when they are effective in their work. Technology = Happiness.
Co-founding and running a legal tech startup called Closing Folders was my last major project. Most major law firms in Canada and many in the US and beyond use Closing Folders to automate closings for complex legal transactions. After an eight-figure exit from the startup, I am on a career break spending time with my young family. I keep myself busy with my hobbies: cooking and travelling. I also sporadically invest in and advise startups I find interesting.
I am considering getting back to building again. I am currently exploring themes related to second-order effects of generative AI, particularly with respect to privacy, security, and trust. Please consider reaching out if you want to have an interesting discussion!
Most of my portfolio is deployed in boring old index ETFs, but I do like to invest in startups or funds from time to time. I have no thesis. I invest on the basis on my judgment of the founder(s) or manager(s) and whether I find the startup's problem space or fund's thesis interesting.
Some of my investments have included:
I love travelling and cooking. I think hobbies have a way of finding you. No matter how busy I get, I'm always planning my next meal or trip.
And Charlie, don't forget about what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he ever wanted...He lived happily ever after.

We can be blind to the obvious, and we are also blind to our blindness.
